Serena defeats sister in Sony semifinals

MIAMI, April 2 (UPI) -- Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus Thursday to even their all-time series and reach the title match of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Serena recorded a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory to set up a meeting for the championship with Victoria Azarenka.

Azarenka disposed of Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, giving her a chance at her second title of the year.

Serena and Venus have split their 20 meetings, and this one was typical of the series. Serena recorded six service breaks to five for Venus, and of the 163 points played in the match Serena won 82 and lost 81.

Venus stayed in the match by saving 13 of the 19 break points she faced.
