CHICAGO, April 1 (UPI) -- Nikolai Khabibulin took a shutout into the final seconds Wednesday and needed only 16 saves to boost Chicago past St. Louis 3-1.
The Blackhawks won for the fourth time in six games, defeated St. Louis for the first time this season and moved into a third-place tie with Vancouver in the Western Conference at 93 points.
St. Louis had a five-game winning streak snapped and remained a point behind Nashville and Anaheim in the battle for the last playoff position in the West.
Jonathan Toews and Samuel Pahlsson gave Chicago a 2-0 lead in the first period and Colin Fraser added a shorthanded goal in the second.
The St. Louis goal came from Jeff Woywitka with just 2 seconds remaining in the third period. Chris Mason made 27 saves for the Blues in his 28th consecutive appearance.
