MIAMI, April 1 (UPI) -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Dante Stallworth was charged Wednesday with DUI manslaughter.
The charge came after he was charged by police for driving under the influence of alcohol when he struck 59-year old Mario Reyes, an overnight crane operator, while driving his Bentley in Miami Beach on March 14.
An affidavit filed by Miami-Dade prosecutors said his blood-alcohol level was 0.126 -- above Florida's legal limit of 0.08 -- at the time of the accident.
A report by The Miami Herald said the seven-year NFL veteran could face as much as a 15-year jail term if he is convicted, and also face a mandatory prison term if he enters a guilty plea.
"'My family and I are grief stricken over the tragic accident which occurred Saturday on Miami Beach where Mario Reyes sadly lost his life," Stallworth said in a statement to the newspaper. "My thoughts and prayers are with the Reyes family during this incredibly difficult time."
Conditions of his bond, detailed in court documents, will allow him to live in Florida and Ohio, but if when he travels between the states, he is required to notify the court.
In 11 games last season, he caught a career-low 17 passes for 170 yards and scored only one touchdown.
