NEW YORK, March 31 (UPI) -- A hearing regarding gun possession charges against New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was postponed Tuesday until June 15.
Burress's attorney Benjamin Brafman said he was working with prosecutors on a plea agreement that would allow Burress to play in the NFL this coming season.
Burress, 31, was charged with two felony counts of illegal gun possession related to a November incident at a New York night club in which he accidentally shot himself in the leg. The injury caused him to miss the rest of the season.
He caught 35 passes for 454 yards and four touchdowns last season before the incident. In 2007, Burress caught 70 passes for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also caught the game-winning touchdown pass in the Giants' Super Bowl XLIII victory.
Burress has played for the Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers over a nine-season NFL career. He's caught 505 passes for 7,845 yards and 55 touchdowns in his career.
