COMMERCE CITY, Colo., March 29 (UPI) -- Omar Cummings scored in the 74th minute Saturday to boost the Colorado Rapids to a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Wizards.
Cummings had a career season in 2008 when he registered career-highs in every category -- starts (17), goals (6) and assists (4) and was Colorado's second leading scorer. Saturday he scored the game-winner in the Rapids' home opener.
Colorado lost 2-1 at Chivas USA March 21.
Saturday's contest was tied 1-1 after Colorado's Terry Cooke scored in the 65th minute and KC's Michael Kraus scored the equalizer in the 69th minute.
Colin Clarke helped set up Cummings' second goal in two games. Colorado (1-1-0) earned two points in the Western Conference standings.
With four saves, Kansas City goalkeeper Kevin Hartman achieved a personal milestone by bettering Tony Meola's all-time record and has 1,139 saves in MLS contests.
The Wizards fell to 0-2-0 to begin the 2009 season.
