Nadal, Murray into third round in Miami

MIAMI, March 28 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Rafael Nadal and Scotsman Andy Murray had second-round wins Saturday at the $4.5 million Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

The top-seeded Nadal beat Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-2, 6-2 to move into the third round. Nadal, the reigning Australian Open, Wimbledon and French Open champion, won last week's Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells, Calif., when he beat Murray in the final.

Fourth-seeded Murray lost the first set to Argentine Juan Monaco Saturday, but wound up advancing with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision.

Also Saturday sixth-seeded Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro beat countryman Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-2, 6-2; eighth-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco beat German Benjamin Becker, 6-3, 6-4; and11th-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer defeated American qualifier John Isner 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
