BOSTON, March 28 (UPI) -- Scottie Reynolds scored with a half second left Saturday to give Villanova a 78-76 win over top-seeded Pittsburgh in the NCAA East Regional final.
The third-seeded Wildcats overcame a late mistake to beat Pittsburgh for the second time this season and earn a trip to the Final Four in Detroit next Saturday.
Villanova upset Georgetown in 1985 to win the national college championship.
Dwayne Anderson scored 17 points and Reynolds had 13 for the Wildcats (30-7), who made their first 21 foul shots, finishing 22-fof-23 for the game. They'll take on the winner of Sunday's game between North Carolina and Oklahoma, who meet in the South Regional final in Memphis.
The Big East could have three of the Final Four berths. Connecticut beat Missouri, 82-75, in the West Regional final and Louisville plays Michigan State Sunday in the Midwest Regional final.
Sam Young scored 28 to pace the top-seeded Panthers (31-5), who hadn't made it to the Final Eight since 1974. The loss eliminated the possibility of all four No. 1 seeds advancing to the Final Four for a second straight year.
