CHICAGO, March 26 (UPI) -- Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews scored the only goals of an overtime shootout Wednesday, lifting Chicago to a 6-5 victory over San Jose.
The Blackhawks let a 4-1 lead get away, but came through in the shootout behind the goaltending of Nikolai Khabibulin.
Kane put a backhander past Evgeni Nabokov in the first round of the shootout and Toews sent a wrister between Nabokov's pads. Khabibulin then blocked Jeremy Roenick's shot to end the Sharks' hopes.
Toews scored his 30th goal of the season 8:27 into the second period to give the Blackhawks' their 4-1 advantage. Jamie McGinn started the San Jose comeback just 15 seconds later and Joe Thornton eventually tied the game at 5-5 with 2:08 remaining in regulation.
Chicago has won two in a row for the first time since early this month. Khabibulin made 23 saves to get the win.
Despite the loss, the point San Jose earned lifted the Sharks into a tie with Detroit for the best record in the Western Conference.
