WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) -- Nick Young came up with a key steal in the final seconds Wednesday and Washington held on to defeat Charlotte 95-93.
The Wizards rallied from a 20-point, first-half deficit to defeat a fellow Southeast Division team for the first time all season. Washington had lost its first 14 meetings with division foes.
Antawn Jamison led the comeback with 27 points. Young added 23 and both Mike James and Andray Blatche had 15.
The Bobcats closed within 94-93 on Gerald Wallace's layup with 6 seconds to play and Wallace was fouled on the play. His attempt to tie the game from the foul line was no good, but Emeka Okafor grabbed the offensive rebound. Okafor missed a putback effort and teammate Boris Diaw did the same, only to have Okafor grab yet another offensive board.
Young then came up with his steal and got the ball to Jamison, who was fouled and made 1-of-2 free throws with a second remaining.
Wallace led Charlotte with 21 points. The Bobcats fell 2 1/2 games behind Chicago for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
