PITTSBURGH, March 24 (UPI) -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver John Stallworth has been approved as a part-owner of his former team, NFL officials say.

Stallworth, whose Hall of Fame gridiron career lasted from 1974 to 1987 and encompassed the Steelers' first four Super Bowl wins, Monday was approved along with two others to hold ownership stakes in the storied franchise, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Stallworth, 56, the president and CEO of Genesis II, joined Bruce Rauner and the Varischetti family of Brockway, Pa., among six new partners in the revamped Steelers ownership alignment instituted by the founding Rooney family, which is now led by Dan and Art Rooney II.

Stallworth was a key member of the legendary 1970s Steelers teams. He was president and CEO of an engineering and information technology company based in Huntsville, Ala., which he sold in 2006.

The Post-Gazette said the company at one point was valued at $62 million and held contracts with the U.S. Army, Air Force and NASA.
