NEW YORK, N.M., March 23 (UPI) -- Carolina goaltender Cam Ward, who collected three victories last week, was selected the NHL's No. 1 star of the week, the league said Monday.

The NHL singles out three players each week for star-of-the-week honors. Ward was named No. 1 star while Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin and Phoenix right wing Shane Doan were also honored for their play in games March 16-22.

Carolina was 3

0 on the week with Ward in goal. He had a 2.33 goals-against average and a total of 100 saves in the three games. Ward has a 33-22-5 record in 61 games this season. He is tied for third in the league in wins by goaltenders.

Malkin led the NHL in scoring, getting three goals and five assists. He tied a career best with five points -- two goals and three assists -- in a 6-2 win Wednesday over Atlanta.

Doan totaled seven points (three goals, four assists) in helping the Coyotes to a five-point week. He had the game-winning goals Wednesday against San Jose and Saturday against Vancouver.
