NEW YORK, March 22 (UPI) -- Ryan Shannon's goal early in the third period turned out to be the winner for the Ottawa Senators Sunday in a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

Shannon fired a wrist shot past New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to put Ottawa ahead 1:09 into the period and Senators' goalie Alex Auld kept the Rangers scoreless the rest of the way.

Mike Comrie got the other goal for Ottawa, which has won five straight games.

Brandon Dubinsky scored for the Rangers.

Auld finished with 28 stops and Lundqvist totaled 20.
