DAYTON, Ohio, March 22 (UPI) -- Sam Young's 32 points and eight rebounds Sunday led Pittsburgh in its 84-76 second-round NCAA Tournament win over Oklahoma State.

The Panthers, the top seed in the East Region, escaped after a valiant effort by the eighth-seeded Cowboys.

A 3-pointer by Pitt's Levance Fields created a 49-49 tie two seconds before halftime.

In the second stanza, Fields sank a layup and a 3-pointer, giving Pittsburgh what turned out to be an insurmountable 79-74 lead with 1:30 remaining.

Fields finished with 13 points and nine assists, while DeJuan Blair added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Panthers (30-4), who face No. 4 seed Xavier Thursday at the Sweet 16 in Boston.

Xavier beat Wisconsin 60-49 Sunday in Boise, Idaho.
