Suns guard Barbosa out with bruised knee

PHOENIX, March 20 (UPI) -- The Phoenix Suns have lost guard Leandro Barbosa for at least a week due to a left knee injury.

Tests, including x-rays and an MRI, revealed a bone bruise but no structural damage.

The 6-foot-3 inch native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was hurt in the first quarter of Wednesday' 126-116 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

His left leg bent the wrong way without contact when he landed near the baseline after a contested layup, skipped and crashed to the floor in pain. The team said he will be reevaluated in a week.

"Anything that will cause the bone to get more action could cause more pain," Coach Don Nelson told the Arizona Republic. "We've got to let that calm down."

In 63 games, Barbosa has per-game averages of 14.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
