SAN JOSE, Calif., March 20 (UPI) -- Jonathan Cheechoo scored in the third round of the shootout Thursday night, giving the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win over Nashville.
Playing for the first time since they wrapped up a playoff spot Sunday, the struggling Sharks improved to 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.
All four regulation goals came in the first period, the last one produced by San Jose's Milan Michalek with just four seconds remaining.
Nashville's Pekka Rinne and San Jose's Evgeni Nabokov were perfect the rest of the way until the shootout.
Both goaltenders gave up a score in the first round, but Nabokov then stopped Steve Sullivan and David Legwand to give his team a chance.
Cheechoo came through after producing just six points in his previous 21 games.
