DAYTON, Ohio, March 20 (UPI) -- Byron Eaton scored the last five points Friday to help eighth-seeded Oklahoma State edge No. 9 Tennessee, 77-75, in an NCAA Tournament contest in Dayton.
The game at Dayton Arena was a first-round matchup in the East Region.
Oklahoma State led, 38-34, at halftime but could not shake its SEC opponent in the second stanza.
Eaton's jumper gave his team a 74-72 lead with 47 seconds left.
He capped his 20-point, six-assist effort with a layup and a free throw.
Marshall Moses scored 16 with 11 rebounds.
Terrel Harris scored 15 with four rebounds, and James Anderson added 10 with six rebounds for the Cowboys (23-11), who face either top-seeded Pittsburgh or No. 16 seed East Tennessee State in Sunday's second round.
Tyler Smith's 21 points and three assists paced Tennessee.
Cameron Tatum scored 12, while despite foul trouble, Wayne Chism added 11 points and six rebounds for the Volunteers, who ended with a 21-13 record.
