MINNEAPOLIS, March 20 (UPI) -- Chris Wright scored a career-high 27 points Friday when 11th-seeded Dayton upset No. 6 West Virginia 68-60 in a first-round NCAA Tournament game at Minneapolis.
Dayton took advantage of early foul problems for sharpshooting WVU senior guard Alex Ruoff and built a 33-28 halftime advantage.
In the second stanza, the Flyers frustrated West Virginia with their quickness and defensive prowess.
Wright, a 6-foot-8 inch sophomore, sank Dayton's last five field goals of the first half, one a 3-pointer which led to a 33-24 advantage with 2:10 left.
Charles Little scored 18 points, while Marcus Johnson added 10 with four rebounds for the Atlantic-10 Conference Flyers (27-7), who were playing in their first NCAA Tournament contest since 2004.
Darryl Bryant's 21 points (4-of-6 3-pointers) with three assists led West Virginia.
Devin Ebanks had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Da'Sean Butler scored 12 with five rebounds for the Mountaineers (23-12), who split their final six games this season.
