
BLACKSBURG, Va., March 18 (UPI) -- A.D. Vassallo's 33 points Wednesday led Virginia Tech's 116-108 double overtime win over Duquesne in the first round of the NIT.
In a monstrous floor game, the senior swingman from Puerto Rico also had 12 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots.
In the second overtime, he scored 12 points on two 3-pointers and six free throws. His layup with 16 seconds left created a 78-78 tie at the end of regulation.
Tech led 52-44 at the half, but a 52-44 second half helped Duquesne pull into the tie.
Jeff Allen scored added 23 with 10 rebounds for the Hokies. J.T. Thompson scored 21 with four rebounds. Malcolm Delaney had 20 points and nine assists, while Lorenzo Hudson added 15 points and four assists for the Hokies (19-14), who had lost four of five.
Aaron Jackson led the Dukes (21-13) with 46 points, five rebounds and four assists. Eric Evans scored 19 and Melquan Bolding 18 points.
