CHAPEL HILL, N.C., March 17 (UPI) -- North Carolina star point guard Ty Lawson may miss the third-ranked Tar Heels' NCAA Tournament opener against Radford Thursday.
"I'm as discouraged at this moment as I have been since it happened," North Carolina Coach Roy Williams said about Lawson's nagging toe injury at a Tuesday news conference. "I'm a little surprised by the severity of it. I really expected it to respond quicker than it has."
While Williams didn't rule out Lawson's return for Thursday's game, he said Lawson definitely would be limited.
"There's absolutely no way he will be 100 percent," Williams said. "He hasn't broken a sweat in nine days."
Lawson averaged 15.9 points with 6.5 assists and 59 steals this season. The 5-foot-11 junior helped the Tar Heels to a regular-season record of 27-3 and an ACC regular-season title before sitting out the conference tournament due to the injury.
