Brodeur takes NHL's top weekly honor

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur, who is tied for the NHL all-time win record, was selected the league's top star for last week.

The NHL chooses three players of the week each Monday and Brodeur was named No. 1 star for games March 9-15 while Calgary center Olli Jokinen was the second star and Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby the third.

0 last week, with a 3-1 victory Saturday giving him 551 victories in his NHL career, tying the league record set by Patrick Roy. Brodeur has won seven of the eight games he played since returning to the lineup from a torn bicep injury. In his three games last week, Brodeur allowed 1.67 goals a game and had a save percentage of .943.

Jokinen led the NHL in scoring last week, piling up six goals and two assists over three games. He had a season-high five points, including a hat trick, in a loss Saturday at Toronto.

Crosby also had eight points last week, getting two goals and six assists as the Penguins went 2


2. He capped his week with a three-assist effort in a 6-4 win over Boston.
