NHL: San Jose 2, Los Angeles 1 (SO)

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 15 (UPI) -- Jonathan Cheechoo scored in the seventh round of the shootout Saturday night and the San Jose Sharks beat Los Angeles 2-1.

Evgeni Nabokov finished with 23 saves for San Jose in his return to action after a layoff of almost 2 ½ weeks due to a lower body injury. The Sharks had lost five of their last six games coming into the contest and remain one point behind the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference.

Milan Michalek scored in regulation for San Jose.

Wayne Simmonds scored in regulation and Erik Ersberg was 38-of-39 in goal for the Kings, who have lost two straight games.
