ATLANTA, March 15 (UPI) -- Jon Scheyer's game-high 29 points Sunday led eighth-ranked Duke to a 79-69 win over No. 22 Florida State and its 17th ACC Tournament title.
Scheyer, the tournament's MVP, helped Duke win the event for the ninth time in the last 12 years.
Duke seized control after a 23-8 first-half run led to a 35-21 advantage at the break against the bigger Seminoles.
Its biggest lead in the second stanza was 65-43 when Scheyer sank a 3-pointer with 6:28 left, and despite a late rally, FSU trailed by double digits from that point.
Gerald Henderson scored 27 with four rebounds, and Kyle Singler scored 14 with four rebounds for the Blue Devils (28-6), who joined archrival North Carolina with 17 ACC Tournament crowns, the most in conference history.
Toney Douglas led Florida State with 28 points.
Chris Singleton scored 15 with nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while Solomon Alabi added 10 points for the Seminoles (25-9).
