Rams release wide receiver Torry Holt

ST. LOUIS, March 13 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Rams honored his request Friday and released veteran wide receiver Torry Holt.

The seven-time Pro Bowl selection told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last Thursday that he wanted to be released by the team after playing all of his 10 NFL seasons in St. Louis.

Next Tuesday, he would have been due a $1.25 million roster bonus if he remained on the roster.

The Rams made him a first-round pick in the 1999 draft out of North Carolina State, and had 12 days to honor his request.

"The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the field and in the community," said team owner Chip Rosenbloom. "He is an All-Pro in every sense of the word."

Last season, Holt scored three touchdowns after 64 receptions for 796 yards, and all-time, he ranks 11th on the league's receptions list (869) and 14th in receiving yardage (12,660).
