TORONTO, March 11 (UPI) -- Henry Blanco hit two solo homers and added a double Wednesday, carrying Venezuela to a 5-3 win over the United States in the World Baseball Classic.
Both teams had already clinched spots in the second double-elimination round of the tournament and Wednesday's game only served to determine their next opponent.
By winning Pool C, Venezuela will meet the Netherlands when the second round begins in Miami Saturday. The Americans will take on Puerto Rico. Venezuela claimed the opening-round phase of the tournament despite suffering a 15-6 loss to the United States Sunday.
Gregor Blanco was a home run short of the cycle and drove in a run for Venezuela. Jan Granado earned the victory while recording just two outs in relief.
United States starter Ted Lilly allowed a run on three hits in a three-inning start. Jeremy Guthrie was touched for four runs on seven hits in two-plus innings.
