Roddick clinches cup win over Switzerland

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., March 8 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick cruised to a straight-set win Sunday, sealing a United States Davis Cup victory over Switzerland in Birmingham, Ala.

Roddick rolled over Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, giving the Americans their third win in the best-of-five matches.

The win was Roddick's 31st in Davis Cup singles play. The only American player to win more was John McEnroe with 41.

The U.S. team will play Croatia in the quarterfinals in July. The Croatian team advanced to the quarters with a 5-0 rout of Chile.
