Israel stuns Sweden in Davis Cup battle

MALMO, Sweden, March 8 (UPI) -- Israel advanced to the Davis Cup quarterfinals for the first time Sunday, knocking out the Swedish team 3-2 with two five-set victories.

Harel Levy and Dudi Sela posted the big wins.

Levy needed a little more than 3 1/2 hours to overcome Andreas Vinciguerra 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, 8-6, ending the best-of-five competition.

Earlier, Sela rallied to defeat Thomas Johansson 3-6, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Israel moves on to quarterfinal matches against Russia in July.
