POREC, Croatia, March 8 (UPI) -- Former champion Croatia advanced to the 2009 Davis Cup quarterfinals Saturday by building an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Chile at Porec, Croatia.

The homestanding Croatians forged their advantage with a 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 doubles victory by Mario Ancic and Marin Cilic against Paul Capdeville and Nicolas Massu.

Saturday's contest in the first-ever Davis Cup meeting between these two nations makes Sunday's scheduled reverse singles meaningless, while the winners advanced to July's quarterfinals to face either the United States or Switzerland.

The United States holds a 2-1 advantage over the Swiss in Birmingham, Ala.
