TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 8 (UPI) -- Toney Douglas scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half Sunday, helping 24th-ranked Florida State secure a 63-53 ACC win over Virginia Tech.

The key sequence for Douglas came with 6:37 left in the game when his 3-pointer, followed two free throws, gave FSU what turned out to be an insurmountable 50-42 advantage.

FSU led 32-25 at the break, and were able to slip away after a layup by Malcolm Delaney drew Tech within 45-41 with 9:06 left.

Douglas was the only player in double figures, but a total of 10 Seminoles scored.

He completed a smooth floor game by adding five rebounds and three assists, while Uche Echefu scored nine with six rebounds for the Seminoles (23-8, 10-6), whose victory led to a first-round bye at next week's ACC Tournament.

A.D. Vassallo led Tech with 14 points, three rebounds and four assists.

Delaney scored 13 with three rebounds, but no other player reached double figures for the Hokies (17-13, 7-9).
