BIRMINGHAM, Ala., March 7 (UPI) -- Twins Bob and Mike Bryan won their doubles match Saturday to give the United States a 2-1 Davis Cup lead over Switzerland in Birmingham.
The Bryans beat Stanislas Wawrinka and Yves Allegro 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Arena in a best-of-five first-round battle and became the winningest American Davis Cup doubles team ever (15-2).
They surpassed the tandem of John McEnroe and Peter Fleming (14-1).
The U.S. squad is captained by McEnroe's younger brother, Patrick.
In Sunday's reverse singles, Andy Roddick will face Wawrinka and James Blake is scheduled to play Marco Chiudinelli.
Roddick (30-11) can surpass Andre Agassi (30-6) on the all-time U.S. Davis Cup singles wins list with a victory. John McEnroe holds the U.S. record with 41 wins.
The U.S.-Switzerland winner will play Croatia in July's quarterfinals. Croatia has an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Chile.
