PITTSBURGH, March 7 (UPI) -- Fourth-ranked Pittsburgh sprinted to a 10-point halftime lead Saturday and topped No. 1 Connecticut 70-60 in a key Big East conference matchup.
Pitt forged a 38-28 halftime advantage by using a 12-1 run midway through the opening 20 minutes.
In Pittsburgh's second win over UConn this season, Sam Young led the way with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Brad Wanamaker scored 13 with four rebounds.
Levance Fields overcame a bruised tailbone to finish with 10 points and 12 assists, and DeJuan Blair added eight points and eight rebounds for the Panthers (28-3, 15-3), who went 19-0 at home.
A.J. Price led Connecticut with 19 points (4-of-8 on 3-pointers) and four assists.
Hasheem Thabeet scored 14 with 13 rebounds and five blocked shots, while Jeff Adrien added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies (27-3, 15-3), whose three-game winning streak ended.
The Huskies lost the rebounding battle 48-31.
