OTTAWA, March 5 (UPI) -- Jason Spezza scored just 12 seconds into the game Thursday night and the Ottawa Senators raced to a three-goal lead en route to a 4-2 victory over Edmonton.

Spezza stole the puck at the opposing blue line and headed toward the goal uncontested. He fired a backhand shot past Dwayne Roloson for an instant lead.

Goals by Mike Comrie and Chris Campoli early in the second period gave Ottawa a 3-0 lead and allowed the Senators to win for just the second time in eight games.

Brian Elliot recorded the win by stopping 24-of-26 shots.

Both Edmonton goals came from Sam Gagner. The Oilers have lost six out of eight.

Ottawa led after the first period for only the 14th time in 63 games this season. The Senators have gone on to win 12 of those 14 games.

Roloson let in four goals on 32 shots.
