DALLAS, March 5 (UPI) -- A 3-point shot from Jason Kidd with 31 seconds remaining Wednesday helped Dallas hang on for a 105-100 victory over San Antonio.
After the Mavericks suffered a lackluster loss to Oklahoma City on Monday, Dallas owner Mark Cuban threatened to break up the team next year unless he saw more effort from the players.
Dallas came through with that effort against the Spurs, getting 29 points from Josh Howard, and 24 points and 12 rebounds from Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks have won four out of five.
San Antonio sliced into a 10-point deficit late in the game with a 10-2 run before Kidd gave the Mavericks a five-point cushion with his key 3-pointer. Tony Parker then missed a layup and a 3-point attempt for San Antonio to doom the Spurs' chances.
Kidd and Jason Terry both had 17 points for Dallas, which moved within 3 1/2 games of San Antonio for the top spot in the Southwest Division.
Parker led the Spurs with 37 points, Roger Mason had 23 and Tim Duncan 19. San Antonio has dropped three out of four.
