ST. LOUIS, March 4 (UPI) -- Chris Osgood made 22 saves Tuesday, posting his first shutout this season and 48th of his NHL career in a 5-0 Detroit whitewash of St. Louis.
The Red Wings played most of the game without right winger Marian Hossa, who was carried off the ice on a stretcher after being checked violently into the boards by Blues defenseman Roman Polak. Hossa, who leads the defending Stanley Cup champs with 34 goals, had just returned after missing two games with a neck injury.
Detroit got its goals from Tomas Kopecky (short-handed), Henrik Zetterberg, Valtteri Filppula, Kris Draper and Niklas Kronwall.
Chris Mason gave up the five goals on 36 shots for St. Louis, which had a three-game win streak snapped.
Detroit was coming off an 8-0 loss Saturday to the Nashville Predators. It was the Wings' worst defeat since an 8-0 loss to Winnipeg on Oct. 9, 1982.
