
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., March 4 (UPI) -- Kevin Coble's 16 points and eight rebounds Wednesday helped Northwestern rally to a 64-61 Big Ten Conference upset of 20th-ranked Purdue.
He scored 10 points in the second half when Northwestern overcame a 35-28 halftime deficit.
A layup by Jeff Ryan put the winners ahead for good at 49-47 with 8:07 left.
Michael Thompson and Craig Moore scored 12 points each, Ryan finished with six points for the Wildcats (17-11, 8-9), who stopped their five-game losing streak against the Boilermakers, including a narrow 63-61 loss Jan. 15.
Purdue was led by Keaton Grant and E'Twan Moore with 14 points apiece. JuJuan Johnson, the only other player in double figures, scored 11 with three rebounds for the Boilermakers (22-8, 11-6).
Overall, Purdue has split its last four contests.
