WASHINGTON, March 3 (UPI) -- Patrick Eaves's two goals Tuesday and the Carolina Hurricanes breezed to a 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.
Matt Cullen had a goal and two assists for Carolina. Eric Staal scored on a penalty shot, and Chad LaRose had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who have won two of three.
Carolina's Cam Ward blocked 39 of 41 shots.
Alexander Semin and Sergei Fedorov had the goals for Washington, which came after Carolina had already built a 5-0 lead. The Capitals have given up a total of 11 goals in their last t wo games.
Washington's Michal Neuvirth allowed five goals on 30 shots.
