UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 2 (UPI) -- New York Islanders goalie Yann Danis needed only 20 saves Monday night in a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Jeff Tambellini had a goal and an assist and Bruno Gervais, Dean McAmmond and Jesse Joensuu each had a goal for the Islanders, who have won their last two games.
Ryan Smyth scored both Colorado goals. Andrew Raycroft allowed all four New York goals on 31 shots for the Avalanche, who tied their season-high with their fifth straight loss.
The Islanders scored the only goal of the first period with 6:45 left when McAmmond sent the puck between Raycroft's pads. Colorado tied the game with a power-play goal just 33 seconds into the second period but the Islanders regained the lead less than two minutes later when Joensuu scored his first NHL goal in his league debut.
