Charges against Broncos' Marshall dropped

ATLANTA, March 2 (UPI) -- Disorderly conduct charges filed against Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall were dismissed Monday in Atlanta, the NFL player's lawyer says.

Marshall's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said he had been confident the charges against his client would be dismissed based on his initial investigation into an incident involving Marshall in Atlanta on Sunday, The Denver Post reported.

"Based on my investigation yesterday, he shouldn't have been charged in the first place and I was confident the charges would be dismissed," Steinberg said.

Marshall was arrested Sunday following a dispute involving his fiancee, Michi Nogami-Campbell.

While the dismissed charges will definitely help Marshall avoid a lengthy suspension from the NFL, the Broncos' star receiver could still be the subject of a review by league commissioner Roger Goodell.

The Post said under the league's personal-conduct policy, Goodell has the power to punish players for questionable behavior outside of rulings by the judicial system.

Marshall, 24, is set to enter the final year of his contract with the Broncos. The receiver has corralled more than 100 receptions during the last two seasons.
