LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 1 (UPI) -- Led by Terrence Williams' 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists Sunday, sixth-ranked Louisville beat No. 10 Marquette 62-58 in a key Big East battle.
His two free throws gave Louisville an insurmountable 59-53 advantage with 1:19 left.
Earlier, his assist on the first of two late 3-pointers by Andre McGee led to a 48-41 lead with 8:56 left.
McGee scored a team-high 16 points, Samardo Samuels had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Earl Clark added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Cardinals (23-5, 14-2), who won for the fifth straight time despite sinking only 5-of-12 free throws.
Wesley Matthews led Marquette with 19 points, three assists and three rebounds.
Lazar Hayward scored 16 with 10 rebounds, and Jerel McNeal added 10 points and six rebounds for the Golden Eagles (23-6, 12-4), who played their first full game without star guard Dominic James.
The senior suffered a career-ending left foot fracture in Marquette's 93-82 loss to top-ranked Connecticut last Wednesday.
