NASHVILLE, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Jason Arnott's first hat trick this season and Pekka Rinne's sixth NHL career shutout led the Nashville Predators to an 8-0 win over Detroit Saturday night.
The contest was all but over after Nashville scored five times in the first period.
Arnott scored in every period, including on the power play in the second period, to raise his goal total to 26.
Ville Koistinen, David Legwand, Joel Ward (unassisted), Antti Pihlstrom and Shea Weber also scored, with Ward, Koistinen, and Weber adding one assist apiece.
Steve Sullivan and J.P. Dumont both had three assists, Rinne made 30 saves and the Predators set a franchise record for goals in one game against Detroit.
Starting netminder Ty Conklin yielded four goals on nine shots before replacement Chris Osgood also gave up four goals on 14 shots for the Red Wings -- who lost for the second time in six games and suffered their worst shutout loss since an 8-0 setback against Winnipeg Oct. 9, 1982.
