ACAPULCO, Mexico, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- No. 2 seed Gael Monfils produced a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jose Acasuso Friday to reach the title match at the Mexican Open.
Monfils, who has just one championship on the ATP Tour, will meet Nicolas Almagro for the crown Saturday. Almagro was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Martin Vassallo Arguello.
Almagro is seeking his second straight Mexican Open title, having defeated David Nalbandian in last year's final.
Monfils has defeated Almagro twice in their three meetings. One of those victories came in the third round at this year's Australian Open.
