CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Tyler Hansbrough set an NCAA free-throw record Saturday in fifth-ranked North Carolina's 104-74 victory over Georgia Tech.
Hansbrough, who had 28 points and 10 rebounds, was 8-for-8 from the foul line to give him an NCAA career total of 907 free throws. That moved him past Wake Forest's Dickie Hemric, who previously set the all-time record with 905 in 1955.
Danny Green added 23 points and six rebounds for North Carolina (25-3, 11-3 ACC), which has won 11 of its last 12 games.
Lewis Clinch had 22 points to lead Georgia Tech (10-17, 1-13), which has lost seven straight games. Alade Aminu added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
The game was close for most of the first half and Georgia Tech trailed by only two points, 30-28, with six minutes left in the period. But the Tar Heels then went on a 13-0 run to build a 43-28 lead and were ahead 46-33 at halftime.
