PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Despite making only one basket in the final 9:22 Saturday, Georgetown hung on for a 56-54 upset of poor-shooting 12th-ranked Villanova.
Chris Wright capped a 13-point, five-assist and four-rebound effort by sinking a layup and two free throws in the final 48 seconds to help the Hoyas overcome their 25 turnovers.
DaJuan Summers regained his shooting touch by scoring 16 points (3-of-6 3-pointers), and reserve Nikita Mescheriakov added 11 points with three rebounds for the Hoyas (15-12, 6-10 Big East), who had lost four of their previous five conference contests.
Mescheriakov's 3-pointer gave Georgetown its biggest lead, 40-32, with 17:25 remaining.
The losers closed to 52-50 on Dante Cunningham's jumper with 5:07 left, but never took the lead.
Cunningham led Villanova with 13 points, nine rebounds and two late blocked shots.
Scottie Reynolds, the only other player in double figures, scored 12 with four assists for the Wildcats (23-7, 11-6), whose three-game winning streak ended.
They shot a season-low 33.3 percent.
