Fish earns semifinal spot at Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Mardy Fish survived two tiebreaks Friday to down Florent Serra and reach the semifinals of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

Fish is trying to become the first American winner of this tournament in six years. He defeated Serra 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4) to set up a semifinal meeting with Jeremy Chardy.

Chardy ousted former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3) on the hard courts of the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center.

In the other quarterfinals, Christophe Rochus got past Stefan Koubek 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) and Evgeny Korolev was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Rochus will be playing in a semifinal match for the first time in three years.
