MILWAUKEE, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Marquette University has lost star guard Dominic James to a career-ending broken left foot.
The 5-foot-11-inch senior from Richmond, Ind. was injured 4 minutes into the first half of Wednesday night's 93-82 loss to second-ranked Connecticut.
It was on the night he played in his school-record 128th contest.
James was guarding high-scoring Huskies guard A.J. Price when he grabbed his foot and didn't return to the game.
"His career at Marquette is over," said Coach Buzz Williams. "(I'm) not sure exactly when his surgery will be. We will figure it out as we speak. It's probably a 100-day rehab. He's been absolutely incredible throughout his career."
James was averaging 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 28 games and added a team-leading 62 steals.
In James' absence, the 10th-ranked Golden Eagles (23-5, 12-3 Big East) will turn to 5-foot-8-inch reserve point guard Maurice Acker.
