COL BKB: Connecticut 93, Marquette 82

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A.J. Price scored seven of his 36 points in a game-closing run Wednesday, carrying second-ranked Connecticut to an historic 93-82 win over Marquette.

It was the 800th win in the coaching career of Connecticut's Jim Calhoun. He became the seventh major college basketball coach to reach that mark.

The Huskies bounced back from a loss to Pittsburgh last weekend that knocked them out of the No. 1 spot in the national rankings. The win over Marquette gave Connecticut a half game lead over Louisville at the top of the Big East Conference standings.

Marquette owned a 74-73 lead when Connecticut's Kemba Walker grabbed his own rebound and scored with 6:29 to play. That touched off a 20-8 run that Price finished off with seven straight points.

Stanley Robinson added 19 points and 10 rebounds for Connecticut (26-2, 14-2 Big East) and Hasheem Thabeet grabbed 15 boards.

Marquette (23-5, 12-3) was led by 26 points from Jerel McNeal. The Golden Eagles suffered a big loss when point guard Dominic James left the game in the first half with a broken bone in his left foot. He is expected to be sidelined indefinitely.
