Hewitt a first-round loser at Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt of Australia was a first-round loser Tuesday at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

Hewitt, an unseeded two-time major champion, lost to eighth-seeded Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Hewitt, the 1999 Delray Beach champion, entered the draw as a wild card this week.

In an upset, fourth-seeded Igor Kunitsyn was knocked off by qualifier and fellow Russian Evgeny Korolev 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Seventh-seeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy won 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 against former top 10 star Tommy Haas, the 2006 Delray Beach champ.

American Vincent Spadea came from behind to beat German Denis Gremelmayr 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, and German Mischa Zverev beat American qualifier Taylor Dent 6-4, 6-3.
