Tsonga, Llodra win Marseilles semifinals

MARSEILLES, France, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra were upset winners Saturday at the Open 13 men's tennis tournament in Marseilles, France.

Tsonga, the No. 4 seed, used the momentum he got from the pro-French crowd and knocked off top-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).

He served nine aces and won 75 percent of his service points while erasing five break points in the 85-minute match.

"I told myself I had to go for it," he said in a courtside interview. "I am proud of having played such a match."

The unseeded Llodra topped compatriot and second seed Gilles Simon 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Tsonga continued his hot play after winning the inaugural South Africa Open in Johannesburg two weeks ago, while Simon was denied a chance to win this event for the second time in three years.

Sunday's Tsonga-Llodra winner will pocket a $111,000 paycheck.
