PERTH, Australia, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- John Bickerton closed with a birdie putt Saturday to join Ross McGowan in first place at the European Tour's Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia.
The 18th hole birdie completed a third-round 7-under-par 65 and, with his fellow Englishman, made his 54-hole total 14-under 202.
"It's nice to produce a good score when you need to," said Bickerton, who missed the cut in his last four tournament appearances. "I'm in a good position for (Sunday) but we''ll see what happens."
McGowan's 6-under 66 included birdies at the 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th holes.
He held the lead in the clubhouse before Bickerton's day-ending drama.
"I got used to the speed of the greens and played nicely on the back nine," McGowan said.
At 12-under 204, France's Raphael Jacquelin (66), Chile''s Felipe Aguilar (68), Australia's Terry Pilkadaris (68) and amateur New Zealander Danny Lee (69) all share third place.
Five players tied for the lead at one point late in the day.
