Tommie Harris' wife dies
TORONTO, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Rick Nash scored with a second left in the first period and then produced the game-winner in the shootout Thursday, giving Columbus a 4-3 win over Toronto.
The Blue Jackets' Ken Hitchcock, who won a Stanley Cup while with Dallas, became the 13th coach in NHL history to reach 500 wins.
Nash produced Columbus' second goal of the shootout, beating Justin Pogge to the stick side. The Blue Jackets claimed the win when Toronto's Lee Stempniak missed wide to start the third round.
Nash's goal just before the end of the opening period tied the game at 1-1, but the Maple Leafs emerged from the second stanza with a 3-2 advantage.
Kristian Huselius tied it again 1:38 into the third. Columbus has recorded at least a point in seven straight games.
Steve Mason picked up the victory by stopping 32-of-35 shots.
