LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Amare Stoudemire piled up a season-high 42 points Wednesday, carrying Phoenix to a runaway 142-119 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Alvin Gentry, coaching his second game after taking over for the dismissed Terry Porter, again had the Suns playing their old style of run-and-gun basketball.
Gentry's two games as coach have come in a home-and-home series against the Clippers and the Suns totaled 282 points in those contests.
Stoudemire, the subject of recent trade rumors, hit 15-of-20 shots from the field and 12-of-13 from the line. Steve Nash added 21 and Jerome Richardson 17.
Phoenix took a 67-53 halftime lead and did not slow up while reverting to its old style of basketball. Porter had attempted to install a more defensive-minded brand in his abbreviated first season with the Suns.
Al Thornton led the Clippers with 33 points.
